Nominate an Outstanding Woman for Recognition

In conjunction with Women’s History Month in March, I am seeking to honor a service-oriented woman who has demonstrated leadership, involvement and commitment to our community as the 17th Legislative District “Woman of Distinction” for 2014. If you live in one of the communities covered my district and this sounds like you or someone you know, now is the time to apply!

In 2002, the Suffolk County Legislature passed a Resolution authorizing each County Legislator to honor a “Woman of Distinction” from their local district. From amongst all of the outstanding women so designated, the Suffolk County Women’s Advisory Commission will select one as the Suffolk County Woman of Distinction. This individual will be honored at the Legislature’s General Meeting in March.

Residents in District 17, which encompasses parts of Huntington, Huntington Station, South Huntington, Melville, West Hills, Cold Spring Hills, Dix Hills, Deer Park, North Babylon and West Babylon, can nominate themselves or someone they know by submitting a short essay listing the woman’s contributions and stating why they believe this person is worthy of recognition. Contributions cannot be a part of the nominee’s job responsibilities. Nominations can be emailed to Karen.Klafter@suffolkcountyny.gov or sent via mail or fax to my District Office, 130 West Jericho Turnpike, Huntington Station, NY 11746, Fax (631) 854-4415. For more information, call (631) 854-4433. Deadline for submissions is January 28, 2014.

Within our community, there are many outstanding women who regularly set an example by contributing to the enrichment of our society through their selfless acts. I look forward to giving one the recognition she deserves.
