Two Lindenhurst Students Commended for Environmental Efforts

Two Lindenhurst Middle School students were recently honored for their eco-friendly efforts at the school. Babylon Town Councilman Tom Donnelly visited the LMS on April 30 to recognize eighth-grader Alexis Warren and sixth-grader Luke Cawley for their work on two projects to improve the environment.

Warren received $1,000 from the Disney Friends for Change Grant to use fora recycling project that'll include the addition of new wood chips in the school’s courtyard.

Cawley collected funds to purchase two new linden trees for the courtyard after researching Lindenhurst’s name and learning it comes from the vast amounts of linden seeds planted by settlers throughout the area.

Bubble co-owner Jennifer DellaFranca started the campaign not too long ago on the website, setting a $7,000 goal to help expand class offerings at Bubble and throw a big weekend event for families in the area affected by Sandy.

N. Babylon Student Awarded Scholarship at Earth Day Celebration

North Babylon student Kevin White was awarded a $1,000 scholarship during the Town of Babylon's Earth Day Celebration last weekend.

Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer joined with local officials to award scholarship money to outstanding students who have completed selected environmental projects. Every year the Town of Babylon joins with Covanta Energy for the Babylon Covantage Ecotech Scholarship, which was launched in 2008 and has since given out nearly $20,000 to deserving students. This year a total of $3,350 was handed out to fourteen students.
