Team Heroes Sports Holds Family-Friendly Fundraising Event Feb. 10

On February 10 Team Heroes Sports, an organization dedicated to teaching children with autism the values of being a part of a team, will be holding a family-friendly horse racing event.

What are you doing on February 10, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.?

If you aren’t busy, how about a little horse-racing, family-friendly style?

Team Heroes Sports of West Islip will be holding their fund-raiser, entitled, “A Day At The Races”, which will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Long Island Avenue in Deer Park. The cost of admission is $10 for children from age 3 - 12, and for senior citizens aged 65 and over; ages 13 - 64 are $15. The admission fee includes an assorted pasta meal, soda/water/coffee/tea, and dessert, as well as 8 races. There will be raffles and door prizes as well.

The event will feature six Thoroughbreds who will run eight exciting races, including a Steeplechase Race and a Mystery Race. An auction will be held, so that participants can decorate a horse for the “Big Race of The Night”. This exciting event will be filled with entertaining jockeys, too. You may name a horse for $10, too!

All of the proceeds for this event will sponsor the Team Heroes Sports camp, which is 20 week camp for children aged 3-9 years of age with autism and autism spectrum disorders. Highly qualified and trained counselors are on hand to assist the children with an excellent child to counselor ratio. The camp begins their season in mid-March with soccer for ten weeks, and is followed with another ten weeks for T-ball training. The children love the camp, the parents love the concept, and the counselors love the kids. It’s a win-win situation for everybody.
