Melville Man Held in Fatal Hit-and-Run
Amityville bicyclist found dead near Burrs Lane and Express Drive North.
A Melville man was arrested Monday and accused in a hit-and-run accident that killed a bicyclist earlier in the day, Suffolk County police said.
Albert Dibernardo, 28, was identified as the driver, Suffolk police said. Dibernardo was charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting involving a fatality. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
The victim, who was identified as Ricardo Fernandez, 44, of Amityville, was spotted by a motorist on Express Drive North in Dix Hills, a quarter of a mile east of Burrs Lane, who then notified Suffolk police about 10:05 a.m.
The time of the crash is unknown.
Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
