Car Splits in Half After Hitting Pole in Dix Hills

Driver suffers only minor injuries in Wednesday morning crash.

A car split in half after striking a utility pole in Dix Hills early Wednesday morning, but the driver escaped serious injury, according to Suffolk Police.

Dix Hills Fire Department volunteers responded to the crash on Daly Road near Larkfield Road at around 4:05 a.m. The female driver was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad with non-life threatening injuries.

LIPA was requested to the scene for the split pole and electrical wires that came down in the crash. About 25 firefighters and rescue personnel were dispatched with two heavy rescue trucks, an ambulance, paramedic and first responder units, under the command of Third Assistant Chief Alan Berkowitz. 

Police did not release the identity of the driver.
