A look at recent crime in nearby towns.

West Islip

An organized ring of 15 Long Island Rail Road employees and two others were indicted Friday after conspiring to steal more than $250,000 worth of copper wire belonging to the LIRR, according to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice. Among those arrested was Kevin Graham, 29, of West Islip. He is charged with four counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, two counts of conspiracy in the fifth degree, and four counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

A shooting at Firemen's Park in Lindenhurst on Tuesday evening appears not to be the result of criminal activity, according to Suffolk Police officials on the scene. Reports of gun shots in the area near the basketball courts of the park prompted Suffolk Police to summon several police cruisers and detectives along with the Crime Scene Unit to investigate and cordon off the parking lot adjacent to the courts.

West Babylon

A West Babylon man is under arrest after Suffolk County police found large quantities of hallucinogenic drugs and an illegal firearm at his home early Friday morning. First Precinct detectives at the Suffolk County Police Department say Michael David, 23, of 526 17th Street, was arrested at 12:30 a.m. last Friday morning after a search warrant was executed.
