Half Hollow Hills

  • Police say a man handed a teller a note indicating he had a gun during a robbery of the Dix Hills Plaza Bank of America Saturday afternoon.The robbery occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the bank located at 709 Old Country Road. The note demanded cash and the teller complied, giving the man an unspecified amount of money, police said. The man was last seen fleeing the bank's parking lot on foot, police said.

  • An incident of aggravated harassment via Facebook messages was reported on Aug. 31 at Hemingway Drive in Melville.

    Huntington 

    • Dario Cortes from Huntington was arrested in Huntington for second-degree harassment and 2nd degree unlawful surveillance

    Northport

    • Three robbers fled the gas station on Route 25A in Northport Saturday empty-handed after threatening an employee with both a knife and a gun in the early morning hours. According to manager Musti Kondur, the men entered the store at approximately 4 a.m. Saturday morning. All three were wearing masks, making it difficult to identify them, but Kondur said they appeared to be in their mid-to-late twenties. They forced the clerk to sit behind the counter while one held a gun to his head. Another pressed a knife against his back while the third man disappeared into the office but came back empty-handed. They told the clerk to open the cash register several times, but Kondur said the man doesn’t understand English very well. When he failed to open the register, Kondur thinks the men either panicked or just grew frustrated and fled the building. The employee immediately called police.

    Babylon Village

    • A West Babylon man is under arrest and charged with possessing and promoting child pornography, according to Suffolk Police. Patrick Steiner, 42, is facing five felony counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and five felony counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, states a police report. Police said the arrest made last week was the result of an undercover investigation of individuals who were trading child pornography online. Steiner has served as a sergeant within the New York Police Department auxiliary unit, according to a police press statement.

    Commack

    • Multiple pieces of jewelry were stolen from a Commack home on Aug. 30, police said. According to Suffolk County police, the thief entered a residence located on Walter Court by lifting the screen to the rear bedroom window. Once inside, assorted jewelry, including a necklace, watch and earrings, were stolen. The incident occurred around noon. No injuries were reported.
