Crimes Nearby: Police Taser Trespasser Three Times

Lindenhurst

Charges are mounting for the Lindenhurst man who was caught by Suffolk
Police after trying to gain access by posing as a "town security
guard" to Harding Avenue Elementary School on Friday.

However, Joseph Ciambriello hasn't been arraigned yet, according to
Inspector Gerard Gigante, First Precinct commanding officer, because
he was sent for a psychiatric evaluation following his arrest on March
2.

When police finally caught up with Ciambriello after he led officers
on a wild car chase that began on East Shore Road in Lindenhurst, wove
through parts of West Babylon and ended in North Lindenhurst, it took
several police officers and a taser gun to subdue him, Gigante told
Lindenhurst Patch on Monday.

"We had to taser him three times because the first two times didn't
have the intended effect. After the first time he ran across the
street," Gigante said. "He was eventually subdued by five or six
officers, and then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West
Islip for treatment."

After he was treated, Gigante said Ciambriello was taken to Stony
Brook Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.

A Lindenhurst man was arrested last week and charged with robbing the
same West Babylon bank twice this month, police said. Christopher
Legge, 39, robbed the Roslyn Savings Bank on West Montauk Highway on
the mornings of February 11 and February 24, according to police.

Huntington

Police have arrested two Huntington Station men and three others this
week for a string of Long Island crimes, including a December robbery
at the A&D Jewelry Store in Huntington Station.

Third Precinct police arrested and charged Edwin Acosta-Martinez, 23,
of 15 Ludlum St. in Huntington Station with six counts of first degree
robbery, three counts of fourth degree criminal possession of a
weapon, third degree criminal possession of a weapon; and Mario
Chincilla Rodriguez, 23, of 170 East 23rd St. in Huntington Station,
with three counts of first degree robbery.

A multi-unit police investigation led to the arrest of four of the
men, all found in a grey 2000 Ford Mustang Feb. 29, and a fifth
suspect in previous robberies. During the execution of a search
warrant, weapons and proceeds from the Health Mart Pharmacy robbery
were recovered, according to police.

Others arrested include Wilmer Velasquez-Cruz, 27, of 110 McKinley
St., Brentwood; Jonathan Portillo, 16, of 246 Lincoln Ave., Brentwood;
and Carlos Velasquez, 17, of 135 W. Bay Shore Rd., Bay Shore.

Three former Nassau County Police officials, including one from
Huntington Station, were indicted Thursday on charges they conspired
to prevent the arrest of Merrick teenager Zachary Parker whose father
was a financial benefactor of the police, the Nassau County District
Attorney's office says.

Detective Sergeant Alan Sharpe, 54, of Huntington Station, is charged
with second degree offering a false instrument for filing; two counts
of official misconduct; and sixth degree conspiracy in connection with
the case. He faces up to two years in jail if convicted and sentenced
consecutively. His annual salary as of Dec. 31, 2011 was $138,776.
Sharpe retired on Jan. 5.

Parker, now 20, was charged with stealing more than $3,000 worth of
computers after he allegedly broke into Kennedy High School in 2009.

Massapequa

An armed robbery at the GameStop store on Sunrise Highway caused
several area schools to go into lockdown for a brief time Monday,
Nassau Police said.

Nobody was hurt in the holdup, which took place at 12:19 p.m.
Three men wearing masks entered the store and ordered the 27-year-old
store manager to the back of the store. One of the men had a gun,
according to cops.  The robbers stole video games, consoles and an
unknown amount of cash before fleeing out the back door.

Commack

Six people were arrested and a manager cited Thursday during a state
liquor authority check at a Commack bar, police said.

Suffolk County police conducted the check at Arizona Bar and Grill, at
6106 Jericho Turnpike at 11:50 p.m.

Scott Bejes, 28, of Kings Park, the bar's manager and bartender, was
issued three citations; two for violations of New York State Alcohol
Beverage Control  Laws and one for a Suffolk County Sanitary Code
violation, police said.

Two security guards, Jose Mejia, 22, of Oceanside, and Jamarr
Williams, 24, of Brentwood, were aressted and charged with being
unlicensed, according to police.

Four patrons of the bar were also arrested:

Torrey Smith, 34, of East Northport, was charged with unlawful
possession of marijuana.
Carla Donovan, 26, of East Northport, was charged with three counts of
criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Princena Degraffe, 27, of Central Islip, was charged with criminal
possession of marijuana.
 Benito Delgado, 30, of Huntington Station, was charged with disorderly conduct.

*Alexander Marcelin of Wheatley Heights, who was arrested in Dix Hills Aug. 2, 2011 on a charge of rape in the first degree, has since been exonerated of the charge.
