Three Hurt in Northern State Crash

One of the victims was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital Monday evening.

Three people were injured in a two-car crash on the Northern State Parkway west of Deer Park Avenue in the eastbound lanes, Monday at approximately 8:15 p.m., authorities said.

Dix Hill Firefighters used heavy rescue extrication tools to remove a woman trapped in one of the wrecked cars.

Three victims suffered injuries, including a woman who was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter that landed on the parkway. Two men were transported by Dix Hills Rescue Squad ambulances to Huntington Hospital.

Nearly 50 Dix Hills volunteer firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with four ambulances, three heavy rescue trucks and two engines, under the command of First Assistant Chief Robert Fling, with operations handled by Second Assistant Chief Tom Napolitano and Third Assistant Chief Alan Berkowitz.

The crash closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the parkway between Deer Park Avenue and Wolf Hill Road.

State Police are investigating.
