UPDATE: Dix Hills Man Dies After Vehicle Strikes Tree

Devin Wolcott, who was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash on Sunday, was pronounced dead at Huntington Hospital.

Devin Wolcott, 24, of Dix Hills was pronounced dead Sunday night at Huntington Hospital after suffering major injuries when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree in Melville that morning, Suffolk County police said Monday.

Wolcott was driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra north on Sweet Hollow Road in Melville around 4:15 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which then struck a tree on the west side of the road, about a half mile south of Chichester Road, police said.

Wolcott, a 2005 graduate, was transported by the Melville Fire Department to Huntington Hospital, where he was admitted with numerous life-threatening injuries, including head injuries and numerous broken bones, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
