Dix Hills NYPD Officer Recovering After Falling 15-Feet During Chase

The policeman fell 15 feet in pursuit of a drug suspect in Brooklyn Friday night.

An NYPD officer from Dix Hills is now recovering after he fell 15 feet from a Brooklyn fire escape while chasing a drug suspect Friday night.

Officer Francesco Allevato, 23, was being treated at Kings County Hospital over the weekend for a broken collarbone, a concussion and bleeding from his eardrum, the New York Daily News reported.

According to the report, Allevato was racing after Jesus Ortiz, 18, at a three-story building in Brownsville when he tumbled off the fire escape just before 9 p.m. Friday.

Allevato took off after Ortiz after they observed a marijuana sale, sources told the Daily News.

Ortiz was arrested near the scene and charged with several crimes including reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and drug possession. Ortiz has 10 prior arrests.
