UPDATED: Dix Hills Teen Killed in Pedestrian Strike

Accident on Northern State Parkway Sunday night claims the life of 16-year-old Taylor Ann Cavaliere.

A Dix Hills teen was struck and killed by a car on the Northern State Parkway late Sunday night, State Police said.

Taylor Ann Cavaliere, 16, was hit by a car driven by 31-year-old Mathew D. Sinclair, of Holbrook, around 11:30 p.m., police said.

Sinclair told police that while he was driving eastbound on the Northern State near exit 42 (Deer Park Avenue), Cavaliere walked into the road in front of his vehicle, police said.

Cavaliere, an 11th grader at Commack High School, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cavaliere had attended a party at a friend’s house located near the scene prior to the accident, police said.

Sinclair has not been charged with any crime.

Commack School District Superintendent Donald James sent a message to parents Monday afternoon.

"It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you of the tragic passing of one of our students, Taylor Cavaliere," James said in the statement. "This is a terrible tragedy, one that affects everyone in the community."

According to the email, the school will be setting up grief counseling for students who are impacted by Cavaliere's death.

Funeral details have not yet been released.
