Early Morning Fire in Dix Hills

The Dix Hills Fire Department puts out a fire at 15 Folger Lane.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a house fire at 5:28 a.m. at 15 Folger Lane. 

Upon their arrival, Assistant Chief Tom Magno said, "It was evident that we had a fire in a bedroom on the second floor. We made an aggressive attack and stretched a 1" 3/4 to the second floor and knocked the fire down very quickly."

Damage was isolated to the contents of the one bedroom, he said, and the fire was declared under control within 15 minutes.

"My men did an outstanding job and I am extremely proud of them. Their dedication to training really pays off when they are called to action as they were this morning."

Dix Hills  had four engines on the scene with two chiefs, two ambulances and one medic respond to the alarm with approximately 35 men.

They transported one of their firemen to Huntington Hospital for dehydration. 

Magno said, "I was advised by one of the occupants that he started the fire by accident while smoking in bed."

Magno said he requested mutual aid to the Melville FD for rapid intervention as per their protocol and made an additional request to Commack for one engine to stand by at their main and also the Greenlawn FD for one ambulance to their main for additional coverage.
