Fire Districts' Budget Discussions Begin

Residents are invited to a public hearing on the 2012 spending plans for the Dix Hills and Melville districts.

The Dix Hills and Melville Fire Districts have each scheduled a public hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. regarding the 2012 proposed budgets.

Residents are invited to their respective fire departments to listen and discuss the proposed spending plans for the upcoming year.

The Melville Fire District has proposed a budget of $4,831,374, which would result in an increase of $93,324 from 2011.

The Dix Hills Fire District estimates a spending plan of $4,686,162, a proposed increase of $220,915 from this year's. During the hearing, the Board of Fire Comissioners will consider a resolution to approve exceeding the new property tax cap before adopting the budget.

The Melville Fire District's hearing will be held at the main firehouse located at 531 Sweet Hollow Road in Melville. The Dix Hills Fire District's public hearing will be located at the headquarters building at 115 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills.
