Firefighters Rescue Trapped Driver

Woman crashes into utility pole, tree on Wolf Hill Road.

Dix Hills firefighters freed a driver trapped after a car crash early Sunday morning.

The department said a woman driving on Wolf Hill Road near Winthrop Drive was trapped after the crash about 4:10 a.m. after striking a utility pole and splitting it, and then hitting a tree.

Firefighters used heavy rescue "Jaws of Life" tools to remove both driver's side-doors and the B-Post to free the woman, who suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad.

About 20 volunteer firefighters and rescue personnel were dispatched, under the command of Chief Tom Magno, and Assistant Chiefs Rob Fling and Tom Napolitano.
