Man Arrested for Trespassing at Walt Whitman High

Incident took place on April 11, police say.

Suffolk County Crime Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for trespassing at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station on Friday, April 11.

James Rankin, of Roxbury Street in Huntington Station, is charged with criminal trespass. Police say he entered the school unlawfully at approximately 3:50 a.m. and took photographs and videos inside before leaving in a light colored 4-door sedan.

A graduate of Walt Whitman, Rankin entered the school via an unlocked door, police said.

At this time, police do not believe Rankin had any ill intent, and told Newsday that his only crime was trespassing.

No other details were immediately available.
