Man Arrested for Trespassing at Walt Whitman High

Incident took place on April 11, police say.

Suffolk County Crime Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for trespassing at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station on Friday, April 11.

James Rankin, of Roxbury Street in Huntington Station, is charged with criminal trespass. Police say he entered the school unlawfully at approximately 3:50 a.m. and took photographs and videos inside before leaving in a light colored 4-door sedan.

A graduate of Walt Whitman, Rankin entered the school via an unlocked door, police said.

At this time, police do not believe Rankin had any ill intent, and told Newsday that his only crime was trespassing.

No other details were immediately available.

Maybe because Whitman is open 24/7/363. Closed Christmas and Easter.

It is understandable that people assumed the worst when learning about a 35 year old taking photos in a school. I certainly thought someone was casing the place for a future crime when I first heard the report. BUT...if you knew James you would know that he is a perpetual man child who often posts photos of himself in the woods and other remote areas. I know this is hard to believe, but if you knew James it would make sense. I'm in no way making excuses for trespassing. He knows he screwed up, and is upset how this reflects on his character.

Clearly this man child of 35 years old has the maturity level and thought process of an adolescent, perhaps a mental evaluation will do James Tiberius Ford Rankin (Moon Juice) some good. Really this man child is 35 years old, dresses and looks like a 15 year old with a high school education with no potential, no opportunity to make a life for himself in the real world. James try to do something with your life except being an embarrassment and burden on your family and eventually on society. Walt Whitman High School turns out great taxi drivers. James you remind me of the character in the movie “Taxi Driver” it’s about a mentally unstable man that drives a taxi cab in New York; you have the same camouflage coat, same Mohawk haircut and same taxi driver job, and both mentally unstable.
