Severely Injured Man Found Lying on LIE in Dix Hills

Police shut down expressway at Exit 50.

Police shut down the Long Island Expressway at Exit 50 in Dix Hills Saturday afternoon after a severely injured man was found lying in the HOV lane, covered in blood, according to police at the scene.

According to police, Christopher Wilson, 40, of Huntington Station, was traveling eastbound on the LIE just west of Exit 51, when he left his 1993 Chevrolet Blazer, and landed on the road at 1:18 p.m. The vehicle continued for approximately another quarter of a mile before crashing into a light post on the south side of the roadway, and then continued into the grass and struck a couple of trees. Detectives are investigating whether Wilson fell out of the car, or jumped on purpose. Police said Wilson was not hit by a vehicle.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the scene. Wilson was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
