Melville Detective Honored at Nassau County Police Department Ceremony

NCPD hosts 138th Departmental Awards Monday night.

The Nassau County Police Department honored courage and valor during its 138th awards ceremony Monday night.

The ceremony was held at the NYCOM Building located on the campus of New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury. The event, which lasted two hours, celebrated, with members of the officers' families and friends, their accomplishments in the line of duty.

One of the police officers honored was detective Clifford Alek of Melville. Alek and his partner Michael Bartlett of Seaford foiled what would have been a second attempt by someone to kill his ex-neighbor. Both were awarded the Medal of Commendation.

Another honoree was Ambulance Medical Technician, Diane C. McCauley of Merrick, who saved a life while putting her life on the line. McCauley worked on saving the life of a shooting victim while fully knowing she was being watched as she worked, unarmed, by a person directly involved in the shooting.  McCauley, who received a Medal of Commendation, also identified other persons involved and a car leaving the scene resulting in several arrests.

Nassau County Detective Wilson Marrero of the Special Investigating Squad received for his actions in major arrests the Medal of Commendation as well as the Medal of Distinguished Service.
