Melville Man Arrested on Fireworks Charge

Police say several holiday explosives were found in the local man's vehicle during a traffic stop.

Suffolk County Police say they discovered numerous types of fireworks inside a Melville man's vehicle during a traffic stop Tuesday.

According to police, Second Precinct Crime Section officers were on patrol in the Melville area when they stopped William C. Legette III for failing to signal before making a turn in front of the officers’ vehicle on Walt Whitman Road and Paumonauk Hills Court at 7:50 p.m.

The officers observed that Legette’s vehicle, a 2007 Saturn Vue, contained numerous holiday explosives. Legette, 40, was arrested and charged with unlawfully dealing with fireworks, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree and several traffic violations.
