New Dix Hills FD Training Facility Approved

Huntington Town Board unanimously approves plans.

The Town of Huntington has signed off on a plan for the Dix Hills Fire Department to construct a new training facility at its Deer Park Road fire station.

According to Newsday, the Town Board granted the fire district waivers for variances that had been previously approved by the town’s planning board and zoning board of appeals.

According to the report, the fire department needed a waiver for height and area requirements along with a site plan review from the town. The two-story structure will be 27 feet in height and measure 2,170-square feet. Total cost will be $550,000.

When completed, the new facility will provide local firefighters a hands-on firefighting experience, Fire Commissioner Larry Feld said. The fire district has been saving funds for a new facility for the past decade in an effort to build the training center without having to increase taxes on local residents.
