Police: Deer Park Teen Shot While Walking With Friends

Joshua Rosenberg, 16, was shot in the arm on Scott Avenue just after midnight Sunday.

A Deer Park teen is recovering in the hospital after being shot early Sunday morning while he walking with his friends, police said.

Joshua Rosenberg, 16, was walking on Scott Avenue near Tell Avenue just after midnight when he and three of his male friends–ages 18 to 20–heard several gunshots nearby, police said.

As the group began to run away, Rosenberg realized that he had been shot in the arm, police said.

Rosenberg was transported by Deer Park Fire Department Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he is in stable condition, police said.

Police did not specify from where the gunshots may have been fired. No arrests have been made.

The investigation is continuing. First Squad detectives are asking anyone with any information about the shooting to contact them at 631-854-8152 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Before everyone comments on how the neighborhood is going to hell, this part of DP has historically been the crappy part of town.

Ddeer park is going to hell, and it is sad how nobody had seen who shot this young boy, how would you like it if your child was shot and someone had seen it but didn't want to talk. The neighborhood is bad all around and if the people knew how to be nice and respectful towards each other and also be neighborly(which there not) maybe it would be a little safer.there should also be a stronger police presence, maybe then someone may think twice about doing something wrong.

Sorry lifer... I'm a "lifer" too. True, that part of town always sucked. Sorry to put it this way, but if you're a white kid walking around that part of town you're looking for some kind of trouble. Don't feel too bad for him though. This DP kid is on parole for robbery with the display of a firearm, I believe he did it in West Babylon. You can check here if you wish. He's no angel so you play with fire... And if you don't think this town has gotten worse through the years you need to truly survey your surroundings.

Every neighborhood has changed due to everyone being able to afford a house and a high end car during the mid 2000's but alot of the garbage has also moved. My taxes are $8,200 with star. Where else am I going to go?
