Police Found Missing Man Suffering from Dementia

Man wanders away from assisted living facility in East Northport.

Update: Charles Collins was located this morning. Collins was found by the Lloyd Harbor Police Department.

The Suffolk County Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for a man who walked away from Birchwood Suites Assisted Living Facility on Tuesday.

Charles Collins, 76, who suffers from dementia, left the assisted living facility at 423 Clay Pitts Rd., East Northport, to take a walk. He was last seen shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday on Larkfield Road in East Northport.

Collins -- a white man, with gray hair, brown eyes, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, 180 pounds -- was last seen wearing a brown corduroy jacket.  

Anyone with information on his location is asked to contact the Fugitive/Missing Persons Section at 631-852-6040.

As a reminder, the Silver Alert is a new program implemented in Suffolk County that allows local law enforcement to share information with media outlets about individuals with special needs who have been reported missing.
