Police: Two Homeless Men Arrested After Burglarizing Numerous Dix Hills Homes

Men face charges for eight recent burglaries and two attempted burglaries in Dix Hills, police say.

Two homeless men were arrested in Smithtown Sunday morning on charges of burglarizing numerous Dix Hills homes over the past three weeks, police said.

Michael Ferrara, 41, and Vincent Pensavalle, 42, were taken into custody following a high speed pursuit that spanned from Deer Park to Smithtown, police said.

When an officer spotted a blue Chevrolet Blazer that was believed to be used in the burglaries, he attempted to stop the Blazer around 11:30 a.m. at Commack Road and the Long Island Expressway in Deer Park, police said.

The driver, Ferrara, fled at a high rate of speed and later intentionally rammed four marked police vehicles on Larch Lane in Smithtown, police said. 

The Blazer became disabled and officers apprehended the two men, police said.

Ferrara and Pensavalle face charges of committing eight burglaries and two attempted burglaries. They are also charged with two counts of assault, four counts of criminal mischief, resisting arrest and unlawfully fleeing a police officer.

Police have not released the exact locations of the burglaries related to the arrests. 

Ferrara and Pensavalle will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
