A retired Melville man died from injuries he sustained during a home invasion at his Florida home, Newsday reported, citing information from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office.
According to the report, the body of Albert Honigman, 80, was recovered from his home in Boynton Beach last week.
The Sheriff’s office said an autopsy was performed and found the cause of death to be related to blunt force trauma to Honigman’s head. The investigation is continuing.
The report said that Honigman’s daughter told police that an unknown man entered her father’s home just before 10 p.m. this past Friday and attacked both of them before leaving the scene with jewelry. Honigman lived at the Aberdeen Golf and Country Club, a gated community.
Honigman was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released, but returned to the hospital the next day for further treatment and sent home.
Newsday said the Sheriff’s office said Honigman went to bed and was later discovered dead by his daughter.
