Storefronts Scorched in Early Morning Fire

Flames ignite row of shops on Deer Park Avenue Monday.

A line of shops along Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park went up in flames early Monday morning, Suffolk County police and fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 3:51 a.m. at a beauty supplies store located at 1823 Deer Park Avenue. A nearby multifamily home was evacuated due to the flames, however no one was injured in the blaze, police said.

About 155 firefighters including those from Deer Park, Dix Hills, North Lindenhurst, West Babylon, Babylon, Wyandanch and West Islip worked to put out the flames.

Police said the cause of the fire is unknown. Members of the Arson Squad are investigating source .

Four stores were affected in the fire, Larry Bradbury, First Assistant Chief of the Deer Park Fire Department said. Two were damaged by the fire, the others by smoke.

The shops will remain closed while the investigation continues, he said.

Smells like an insurance job to me,,, that business had, well no business! It was a ghost town in that beauty supply store. Just feel real bad for the barbershop next to it, that barbershop was nothing like the "thug barbershop" Profilze a few doors down!

@ima watchin, don't hate on businesses that offer the neighborhood quality service. If they are so bad u should open your own shop and give it a shot.

I didn't say I could cut hair better, just not loving the hang out atmosphere is all, and that is my right as a resident. Just an opinion, the place does plenty of business so I am sure my humble opinion will do them no harm. I may not care for certain things, but "hate on" is not something I do.
