Motorcyclist Alive After Crash on Daly Road

Driver is seriously injured after colliding with a tree Thursday afternoon.

A motorcyclist is alive, but in critical condition, after crashing into a tree on Daly Road, near Blacksmith Lane on the border of Dix Hills and Commack Thursday afternoon, police said.

Stephen Peragine, 54, was operating a 2000 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle southeast on Daly Road, approximately 200 feet north of Blacksmith Lane, when he on the opposite side of the roadway at 12:50 p.m., Suffolk Police said in a release.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the crash.

Peragine, of Smithtown, was airlifted by a Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check, officials said.

The accident caused Daly Road to be temporarily closed in both directions on Thursday.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252. All calls will be kept confidential.
