Wheatley Hts. Man Accused of Assault

Maserati at center of dispute, Nassau police say.

A Wheatley Heights man was arrested Thursday for assaulting a former co-worker with a fire extinguisher, Nassau County police said.

The Jan. 2 incident stemmed from a dispute over a Maserati, according to cops.

Robert Baker, 28, went to an automotive business on Merrick Road, where he once worked with the  51-year-old victim and accused him of spraying a fire extinguisher into the tailpipe of a 2006 Maserati. The car was parked in the rear of the business.

Baker got angry and allegedly picked up a fire extinguisher and  beat the victim on the head and face, sending him to the hospital, before fleeing.

He was arrested early Thursday morning after being released from the Suffolk County Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge.

Baker was charged with assault and was expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Thursday.
