Gaughran Won't Seek Supervisor's Job

County Democratic leader persuades him not to run against Petrone.

The race for Huntington supervisor has one less candidate.

Newsday reported (paid link) that Democrat James Gaughran decided to drop out of the race at the request of Suffolk County Democratic Chairman Richard Schaffer asked him not to run.

The former Suffolk legislator told Newsday, "“I have too much respect for Rich to do otherwise,” Gaughran said. “Rich feels we have an incumbent and we should support him. And I’m supporting our leader.”
