Handful of Local Residents Remain in the Dark

While power has been restored to most, several hundred area LIPA customers remain without power.

Two weeks after Hurricane Sandy rolled ashore causing billions in damage and knocking out power to most of Long Island, the lights are now on for nearly all local residents.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced that by Sunday night, power had been restored to 99 percent of residents across the county, including hard hit areas along the south shore. In total, more then 75,000 LIPA customers across Long Island remain without power Monday morning.

Locally, the Long Island Power Authority was reporting scattered outages as of 10 a.m. Monday.
