Huntington Parks and Recreation Dept. Slashes Program Fees

Town Board authorizes cuts at recent meeting.

The Huntington Town Board has agreed to a request by the Department of Parks and Recreation to reduce fees for evening leisure programs and craft workshops.

Fee reductions were requested by parks and recreation after program revenue and attendance rates dropped sharply following a fee hike two years ago, according to the resolution which passed unanimously May 22. Fees have been restored to 2010 rates.

Evening leisure programs were cut from $34-$153 to $20-$80 with a recreation ID card and from $51-$170 to $25-$100 without a recreation ID card.

Craft workshop fees were reduced from $16-$10 with a recreation ID card to $27 to $15 without a recreation card.

The new fee schedule could increase attendance and revenue by as much as 50 percent, according to the resolution.

Due to red tape and money issue between huntington and the league, the women's league fell apart. Apparently they didnt need the $7000 plus in fees and umpire funds enough to make this work out. I played in this league for over 15 years with the same group of women on most teams. They insisted on an roster of certain number of huntington residents which was hard to maintain, particularly since it was never advertised. The town of babylon seems to have no issue taking our money though, and forego the nonsense

It was just another way for the town to try and get more money out of the people...which in this case fell apart. I guess they were trying to make up some of the money they wasted in so many other areas. And the beat goes on....
