Levy, Dormer Announce Lindy's Taxi to Offer Free Rides During Holidays

Complimentary rides aimed at reducing drinking and driving crashes

As part of the county's DWI prevention efforts, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and Police Commissioner Richard Dormer announced that Lindy's Taxi will be offering free rides home to people who are drinking alcohol at bars or holiday parties.

Lindy's is offering this free service through New Year's Day in an effort to help ensure safety on Suffolk County's roadways.  As an added incentive to not drink and drive, Lindy's has indicated they will provide a free ride back to the bar or holiday party for people who took advantage of the service the evening before to retrieve their cars.

"I'd like to commend Lindy's Taxi service for helping save lives," said Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy.  "There is absolutely no reason to ever drink and drive, and now with Lindy's generous offer, there is no excuse."

"We are pleased to work with the County Executive and the Police Department to help keep drunken drivers off Suffolk's roads this holiday season," Lindy's Taxi owner John Tomitz said. "If we can avoid one crash or tragic death, our efforts will be well worth it."

"I urge anyone who plans on drinking alcohol to do so responsibly," said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer.  "This is a great service to the community."
