The Town of Huntington has launched a new website, offering an up-to-date look and functionality and a range of new features.

It began going up over the weekend and officially went into use Monday morning, replacing the older version that had been relatively unchanged since at least 1999.

“This new website brings Huntington’s online presence into the year 2013, with the look, feel and, most important, the functionality that our residents deserve,” Supervisor Frank Petrone said. “I invite residents to visit the site and become familiar with its many new features."

Seasonal photos, better organization, easier navigation and a host of other changes all contribute to better use of the site. Among the additions are a page showing pets available for adoption, a "how do I..." feature and a mapping system that shows residents sanitation pickup, nearby parks and other services at a given address.

The new site offers nearly 3,000 pages, as opposed to 350 now.

“A key element of this upgrade is the way the website adapts for use on smart phones and tablet computers, which is how more and more people are accessing government sites,” Councilman Mark Cuthbertson said. “The site also makes it easier for residents to access and fill out forms to be filed with the Town.
