April 18: School Board to Adopt Budget Thursday

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. The Half Hollow Hills Board of Education is scheduled to adopt the proposed 2012-13 school budget Thursday. The Board of Education will meet at Chestnut Hill Elementary School at 8 p.m.

2. The Melville Chamber of Commerce will award $500 scholarships each to Tyler Justin Fisher, a junior at Half Hollow Hills High School East and Nicholas Regueiro, a senior at Half Hollow Hills High School West this morning at Colonial Springs Golf Course in East Farmingdale. Both students had submitted essays in the Melville Chamber’s  student essay competition.

3. Purchase tickets today to a bowling fundraiser, which will help build a playground for children with special needs. The Half Hollow Hills Kids Care club is putting on the bowling party at Deer Park Bowl on April 20 to help raise funds for Association for Children with Down Syndrome. Enjoy games, bowling, food and raffles. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Email kidscarehhh@gmail.com for tickets.

4. Looking for a job?  is one of the Northeast region's largest job fairs hosting dozens of Long Island companies offering employment opportunities for both the entry level recruit or the experienced executive looking to change jobs. The event will be at the Melville Marriott, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

5. The Half Hollow Hills Community Library is offering homework help from children in grades K-5 at the Dix Hills branch, starting at 4 p.m.
