Colleges Name Deans List

Here's a list of local students making the grades this semester.

The State University of New York at Geneseo announced its Dean's List for the spring semester 2011. To be on the list, a student must have achieved a 3.5 grade point average while taking at least 12 credit hours. The students include:

Stephen Voltz of Melville, Jamie Albucher of Dix Hills, Melissa Baker of Dix Hills, Samantha Hartnett of Dix Hills, Dana Sorbi of Dix Hills and Suraj Uttamchandani of Dix Hills.

Abdulmomin Ghuman of Melville was also named to SUNY Geneseo's President's List for Spring 2011. To be on the list, a student must have achieved an A in all coursework (4.0 grade point average) while taking at least 12 credit hours.

Lauren Fialkoff, a resident of Dix Hills, earned a perfect grade point average of 4.0 during the spring 2011 semester at SUNY Oneonta and have been named to the college's Provost's List.

The following students were named to the Dean's List for the Spring 2011 semester at Quinnipiac University:

Jamie Barnstone of Melville, Sarah Conca of Melville, Jennifer Klaum of Melville, Jennifer McNaughton of Melville and Julie Abott of Dix Hills

The University of Scranton announced its Dean's List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2011 spring semester. Students at the Jesuit university must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean's List. The students included:

Peter T. Gomez of Melville, a senior exercise science major in Scranton's Panuska College of Professional Studies and Mollie L. Vita of Melville, a senior elementary education/special education major in Scranton's Panuska College of Professional Studies.

Michael Altman of Dix Hills, a junior at Gettysburg College has been placed on the Deans' Commendation List for outstanding academic achievement in the Spring 2011. Gettysburg College students with a quality point average of 3.33 or higher for a semester's work are placed on the College's Deans' Commendation List.

Several area students have been named 2011 Merrill Presidential Scholars by Cornell University. Merrill Presidential Scholars are graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding scholastic achievement, strong leadership ability and potential for contributing to society. Each spring semester, student scholars representing approximately one percent of the graduating class are named to receive this honor by the deans of each of Cornell's seven undergraduate colleges.

The Merrill scholars, in turn, recognize a high school teacher who most inspired their scholastic development, as well as a Cornell faculty member who most significantly contributed to their college education and experience. This year's 33 Merrill scholars, and the teachers they chose to honor, were recognized in events on campus, May 24 through 25.

Vishal Saggar recognized Matoula Lykos ofand professor Timothy DeVoogd in Cornell's Department of Neurobiology & Psychology. Sarah Fogel recognized Robert Hodum of Half Hollow Hills High School East and professor Tamar Kushnir in Cornell's Department of Human Development.

Several local students from SUNY Oneonta earned Dean's List honors for the spring 2011 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, undergraduate students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 semester hours or more. The students include:

Shelby Kalman of Melville, Lauren Fialkoff of Dix Hills, Daniel Kaufman of Dix Hills and Melanie Levine of Dix Hills.

The following students were named to the University at Albany's spring 2011 Dean's List for outstanding academic achievement:

Laura Greenberg of Melville, Kyle Ryan of Melville, Jake Weinstein of Melville, Matthew Cohen of Dix Hills, Jared Goetz of Dix Hills, Alexandra McAlpine of Dix Hills, Amanda McAlpine of Dix Hills and Kristin Moehring of Dix Hills.

The following local residents were named to the Dean's List at Ithaca College for the spring 2011 semester.

Dylan Horowitz, son of Roy Horowitz and Camille Horowitz of Dix Hills, was named to the Dean's List at Ithaca College's School of Business; Rebecca Kuznick, daughter of Alan Kuznick and Deborah Kuznick of Dix Hills, was named to the Dean's List at Ithaca College's School of Humanities and Sciences and Kelsey Rosen, daughter of Steven Rosen and Bonnie Rosen of Dix Hills, was named to the Dean's List at Ithaca College's School of Health Sciences and Human Performance.

Loyola University Maryland announced the members of its spring 2011 Dean's List. In order to qualify for the Dean's List at Loyola, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.5 with a minimum of 15 credits. The following local students have achieved this honor:

Kathleen Pollet, a member of the class of 2012 from Melville; Alexa Stone, a member of the class of 2013 from Dix Hills; Jessica Harras, a member of the class of 2013 from Dix Hills; Kristin Princiotta, a member of the class of 2014 from Dix Hills and Tyler Tantillo, a member of the class of 2014 from Dix Hills.

Several local residents were named to the Dean's List at SUNY Cortland for the Spring 2011 semester. Honorees must earn a grade point average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while completing 12 or more credit hours of classes during the semester. The students include:

Alyssa Abraham, a junior Adolescence Education: Social Studies major from Melville; John Balducci, a senior Chemistry major from Melville; Jessica Dautner, a senior Athletic Training major from Dix Hills; Lauren Herman, a senior Physical Education major from Dix Hills; Jillian Miller, a senior Childhood Education major from Dix Hills; Alyson Plotkin, a senior Psychology major from Dix Hills; Nicole Sherman, a senior Physical Education major from Dix Hills


The State University of New York at Potsdam recently honored students who excelled academically in the Spring 2011 semester. To achieve the honor of being on the President's List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours that semester with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The students included:

Danielle Davoult, a Childhood/Early Child Education major from Melville and Andrea Ostermann, a Psychology major from Melville.

The following area residents have been named to the Dean's List at Providence College for the Spring 2011 semester:

Erica McAllister of Melville, a member of the class of 2014; Nicole Nobile of Dix Hills, a member of the class of 2011 and Ariana Tantillo of Dix Hills, a member of the class of 2011.
