HHH Bus Facility Recovers From Fire

The district's transportation center is reoccupied after flames significantly damaged the building in June.

The Half Hollow Hills Transportation Center is fully recovered from the that ignited two buses in flames and caused significant smoke damage to the facility.

The building, located on Burrs Road in Dix Hills, reopened on Oct. 9 with a new coat of paint and a renovated structure. The district’s insurance covered the costs of the repairs, as well as the two bus replacements.

“It looks fresh,” Anne Marie Marrone Caliendo, assistant superintendent for finance and facilities, said at the Oct. 17 Board of Education meeting.

The board said that the fire did not effect school bus travel and that the transportation office had been working out of the Babylon School District’s center since the blaze.

“It’s nice to be back,” Board President Jeanine Bottenus said.
