Hills Girls Swim Team Finish 3rd in County

The varsity team completed the season with a record of 6-1.

Head Coach Jason Wiedersum and the Hills Girls Varsity Swim Team, led by Seniors Kayleigh Toth and Samantha Scharf, Juniors Shannon Drury, Kim Chan and Dana DeSousa and Sophomore Jennie Gosule, completed their varsity season with a sparkling record of 6-1, falling only to arch rival and reigning county champion, Ward Melville.

Hills then finished the Suffolk County Championships in third place behind Ward Melville and Harborfields.

Senior Kayleigh Toth qualified for the New York State Swimming Championships held at Ithaca College in the 100 yard backstroke. Other outstanding swims were by senior Samantha Scharf (ninth place, 100-yard freestyle), junior Shannon Drury (sixth place, 100-yard butterfly; sixth place 100-yard backstroke), junior Kim Chan (ninth place, 100-yard breastroke) and sophomore Jennie Gosule (fourth place 200-yard freestyle; third place 500-yard freestyle).

In addition, the 200-yard medley relay team of Kayleigh Toth, Dana DeSousa, Shannon Drury and Kimberly Chan, finished in third place; the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kelly Lennon, Kimberly Chan, Jennie Gosule and Samantha Scharf finished in fourth place and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Samantha Scharf, Jennie Gosule, Kelly Lennon and Kayleigh Toth finished in third place, just .2 seconds off of the New York State Championship qualifying time.
