Hills East Footballers To Test Strength

Thunderbirds holding Lift-a-Thon competition fundraiser this weekend to support team program.

The Thunderbirds are hosting their first annual this Saturday Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at Gold’s Gym of Deer Park as a fundraiser to support the football program.

The boys will be competing in three strength lifting exercises including bench, squat and deadlift.

As a new season is a upon the team, the players are seeing many changes. The boys have a new coach, Michael Patrovich, new equipment and the booster club has stepped up its fundraising efforts to lend the team increased support as they aim for a successful season.

The team has been pounding the field and the gym all summer and will be working even harder as two-a-days begin next week.

“We’ve been working really hard in the weight room,” Justin Ashley, a senior, said at a fundraiser.

With the support of their school, parents and new coaching staff, the Thunderbirds are looking to turn around their record and prove their strength on the field.

“The kids are just drooling to get out there,” Patrovich said.

For now though, the boys are putting their strength to the test at Gold’s Gym where you can see who will be the strongman champion of Hills East. Donations can be made to the Half Hollow Hills East Football Booster Club.
