New League for Hills East Wrestlers

Young talent and experienced upperclass look to improve record in competitive division.

The Hills East Wrestling Team enters a new league this season, with a team loaded with talent. The T-Birds will face new opponents in a very competitive Division I, League II.  Coach Bill Davey expects his team will be up for the challenge.

Returning to the mat this year are senior All League Wrestlers Maleik Henry (2nd place), Michael Morris (second place), Matt Haenel (fourth place) and Josh Sycoff (fourth place).  Maleik Henry went on to compete in the County Championships, and took fourth place in Suffolk County at 170 pounds.  

All these wrestlers hope to better their positions on the podium this year, and additionally Coach Davey expects sophomores Jack Scurti, Cameron Byrne, and Kris Krauss to have break out seasons.

Returning varsity juniors Mike Macchia and Joe Longo look to take a shot at placing in the League Championships this season as well.

Rounding out the line-up are talented senior grapplers Connor Quinlan, Joe Long, and Ben Dukoff.

The T-Birds open their season on Dec. 7 and 8 with the annual Spring Gardner Tournament at Calhoun and Mepham High Schools. Their first home match takes place on Dec. 14 vs. Miller Place at HSE.  Varsity matches begin at 5:30 p.m. and JV begins at 4 p.m.  Hills East also plays host to their annual Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27 and 28, beginning at 9 a.m.
