HS East Sports Teams Awards Night

Student athletes recognized for their efforts on and off the field.

Student/athletes, parents and school officials gathered at Half Hollow Hills East High School to honor teams and students that enjoyed success during the recently completed fall sports season.

Following the completion of each sports season, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) honors teams across the state that excel not just on the athletic field but in the classroom as well.

All Hills East fall teams qualified for the NYSPHSAA Scholar/Athlete Team Awards. Some of the teams' grade point averages included football, 92.5; boys soccer, 93.5; girls field hockey, 93.6; girls cross country, 95.1. More than 150 students at Hills East received the distinction of being named scholar athletes.

HHH also has some "combined" teams that include students from the school district's two high schools. Each year, the combined teams take turns receiving their awards, either at HS East or West. For example, the boys volleyball team, which is a combined team, was recognized at Hills West this year. Since the team was one game shy from winning a state championship, Joe Pennacchio, HHH's athletic director, presented the team at Hills East this year as well.

In addition, the girls soccer and gymnastics teams were acknowledged for raising money for cancer and breast cancer respectively.
