Hills West senior Sterling Swaby is just one student who has benefited from program.

The business department in the Half Hollow Hills School District is an elective course of study with many options.

“It provides students with the technical, problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills necessary for pursuing a college education, entering the workplace, and functioning in a global society,” Business Education Director Corrine Carriero said.

The Professional Internship Program is one such course, beneficial because it gives the student the opportunity to pursue a career objective, and ultimately decide if that may be the right path. Hills West senior Sterling Swaby participated in the Internship Program for that very reason.

Under the tutelage of business teacher Donna Southard, Sterling went every Thursday afternoon to his former fourth grade teacher at , Sharon Kaplan, and assisted in her class.

Sterling also took a leadership role in the Aerobics/Kickboxing Club. Sterling said: “I felt as if I was making a difference in the their lives. The memories I have from helping the younger students will always be with me.”

Sterling worked beyond the required 30-hours in the Professional Internship Program in which he earned ½ high school credit. This program guided Sterling in determining his future.
