Q&A: HS East Valedictorian Ross Tannenbaum

A Patch chat with Ross Tannenbaum, who is headed to Cornell University in the fall.

Ross Tannenbaum is the valedictorian of the High School East Class of 2013. 

Tannenbaum will attend Cornell University in the fall. He plans to major in computer science with a possible double major in mathematics.

1. What will you miss most about high school?

 I will miss the relationships of which I have been apart whether they were with fellow students or faculty and the learning experiences that helped me grow academically and socially.

2. What was your favorite high school class?

My favorite class is a tie between: AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science A, AP Physics B, and AP English Language and Composition

3. What clubs or extra-curricular activities were you involved in?

Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, ACSL, Computer Club, Chess Club, Key Club, Piano Lessons, Saxophone Lessons, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Tri-M Honor Society

4. What advice would you give to underclassmen?

When you feel overwhelmed by work, social life, or just anything, take a break to let your mind relax. The best innovation comes from a well rested mind.

5. Any teachers/staff who stood out throughout your journey?

Some of the most influential teachers throughout my years at HSE had been: Mr. Smyrk, Mrs. Breig, Mr. Belanich, Mrs. Lykos and Mr. Del Giudice.

6. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

 I see myself somewhere in the computer science field. Perhaps, I will be a developer of software or a video game. My goal is to create something for the benefit of others in any way possible.

7. What are you looking forward to in moving on to college?
I look forward to the academic rigor and opportunities.

8. Tell us a fun fact about you.

I play in a band with some of my friends that is named after an "Invader Zim" reference.
