Important dates to remember for the upcoming Half Hollow Hills district budget season.

The Half Hollow Hills School District's preliminary budget for the upcoming school year is set at $221.9 million, which would result in an increase of 2.75 percent from the current year’s spending plan.

In order to meet New York State's new property tax cap, 35 teaching positions, 18 of which are due to lower student enrollment, and 26 jobs district-wide are being cut. The district's administration is also taking a , with the condition that no administrators will be let go during that time.

Other cuts include some extracurricular activities, the purchasing of new textbooks, Safety Sally, professional development, building and grounds supplies, overtime pay, modifications to public relations contracts and a printed district calendar. The cutbacks represent

Another change in the upcoming school year is that there will now be a mandatory lunch period.

Superintendent Kelly Fallon said that if passed, the new budget will be the lowest spending increase in 15 years.

Monday, March 5: A Board of Education meeting will be held to discuss estimated figures of the 2012-2013 budget. , 8 p.m.

Monday, March 19: A budget update will be given at the Board of Education meeting. , 8 p.m.

Thursday, April 19: The budget is to be adopted by the Board of Education. , 8 p.m.
