Local Schools Remember Those Impacted By Sandy

Following Hurricane the Half Hollow Hills school district community reaches out.

Long Islanders have weathered the storms—both Hurricane Sandy and a Nor’easter. Daily life was disrupted for weeks due to widespread power outages, downed trees, and extensive home damages. The ‘normal’ edged in slowly, just in time for the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Half Hollow Hills community pulled together to lend helping hands to one another, as well as the areas most devastated by the storms. During the brief period prior to the November 22 Thanksgiving holiday, several HHH schools initiated fundraising efforts to be continued through December.

Annual events and activities scheduled during the storm period were cancelled in HHH. Students applied their creative energy, adding a positive spin to benefit families in need within the HHH community and beyond.
