Things to do with the Kids this Weekend

Don't miss these exciting activities to do with the kids this weekend, Nov 5 thru Nov 7.

Children's Shows

Disney's Aladdin comes to The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center at Five Towns College in Dix Hills this weekend. Join the street urchin Aladdin as he discovers a magic lamp and unleashes a wild and wacky genie who grants him three wishes. He uses this to his advantage to try to be with princess Jasmine who he met in the marketplace. Shows are Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 adults and $5 for children and can be purchased at the box office or online at www.dhpac.org.

Dora The Explorer Live!-Dora's Pirate Adventure is being performed at The Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. Help Dora, her best buddy Boots the Monkey, and the rest of their friends navigate over Dancing Mountain, through Silly Singing Bridge and to confront the Pirate Piggies as they embark on an exciting trip to Treasure Island. Tickets are $12.

The Arena Players Children's Theatre on Route 109 in East Farmingdale presents The Legend of Sleepy Hollow this Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.  Join the new schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, and the town's strongest farmer, Brom Bones, as they compete for the affection of Mistress Katrina Van Tassel in this delightful audience participation play. Tickets are $10 per person and under 3 is free. Tickets may be purchased at the box office (cash or check only) or reserved in advance by calling the box office at 516-293-0674.

The Half Hollow Hills Community Library's Dix Hills branch hosts a Mother Goose event for ages birth to 3 years old on Saturday from 10:30-11 a.m. There will be rhymes, finger plays, and songs. This free event is for district residents only. Contact the library at 631-421-4530 with your child's name to register.

On Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon, Borders Bookstore in Airport Plaza in Farmingdale hosts Storytime. Young people and their parents/caregivers are invited to join in for a free fun and entertaining hour to hear the latest children stories being published as well as sharing cookies and drinks.

Fun Activities

On Saturday at 2 p.m. Borders Bookstore in Airport Plaza in Farmingdale hosts a LEGO® Atlantis Kids Party. Join the quest for the Lost City of Atlantis and check out all of the cool LEGO® items Borders has to offer. There will be games, a building activity and LEGO® Atlantis giveaways while supplies last. Best for ages 8 to 12. There is no admission fee for this event.

Stop by Toys-R-Us on Route 110 this Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. and meet Geoffrey the Giraffe at the free Ultimate Kickoff to Christmas event. Try out this season's hottest toys and create your holiday wish list. There will be free giveaways while supplies last.

Visit the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum this Sunday at 2 p.m. to explore the spooky, slimy, and gross side of the aquatic world. During their program "Disgusting Things from the Deep!" you will get to create a batch of your own gooey slime to take home. Program is for ages 5 and up and costs $3 for members and $8 for non-members. Call 631-367-3418 to reserve a spot.

Outdoors

On Saturday from 1-3:30 p.m. The Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown presents "A Kaleidoscope of Colors." Join a Sweetbriar naturalist for a fall walk to see if you can match a leaf with every color of the rainbow and create a colorful craft to take home. Fees are $5 per person for members and $6 per person for non-members. Call 631-979-6344 to register for this event.

The Half Hollow Hills School District along with the PTA Council host the 3rd Annual Wellness Fair and 5K Run/Walk this Sunday at High School East. Race check-in time is from 7:30-9 a.m. in the High School East West Gym. The Family Fun Run starts at 9 a.m., the 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:30 a.m. and the Wellness Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fees for the race are $25 per adult and $15 per child up to grade 12. The Family Fun Run and Wellness Fair are free. There will also be free screenings and demos, food and music, an array of fitness and lifestyle classes including yoga, martial arts, ultimate Frisbee, zumba and golf, a free family fun run and awards given out in various categories.
