Whiz Kid: Carly Skudin

West Hollow student's Google "Doodle" named state finalist.

This week's Whiz Kid honor goes to 's Carly Skudin.

Carly, an eighth grader, was recently named as one of two New York State finalists in the Doodle 4 Google contest in the grades 7-9 category.

Carly's design, "Shoot for the Moon," created for this year's theme, "What I'd Like to do Someday..." was chosen from amongst 107,000 submissions for its artistic merit, creativity, and theme expression. There were only 400 finalists in the contest, a competition where students use their artistic talents to think big and redesign Google’s homepage logo for millions to see.

Carly will receive a Doodle 4 Google t-shirt, official winner's certificate, and her logo design will be featured on the Doodle 4 Google contest website.
