Brooklyn Man Takes First Place in Run for the Warriors 10K

Runner finished roughly 6.2 mile race in under 35 minutes on Sunday.

A Brooklyn man took first-place in this year's Run for the Warriors on Sunday in the Town of Babylon, finishing the race in under 35 minutes.

The sixth annual race around the town through Lindenhurst and West Babylon took place Sunday morning, with over 3,000 athletes signed up to participate in either the 5K or 10K races.

Brooklyn's Angel Confesor, 29, finished the longer 10K race at 34:49, besting other runners by nearly 50 seconds. Nicole Unger, 26, of Great Neck, finished the 10K at 42:19, besting the rest of female competitors by over three minutes. She finished 21st overall.

A 10K race is roughly equal to 6.2 miles. The race started at Babylon Town Hall and traveled west along Sunrise Highway to Wellwood Avenue and headed south. Runners then traveled to Hoffman Avenue, turning east until hitting Great East Neck Road and running north back to Sunrise Highway and back to Town Hall.

Ian McClosky, 33, of Glen Cove, led the 5K runners with a time of 17:50, beating the next two men in line – 15-year-old Cabel McCandless (17:54) and 17-year-old Nick Morfesi (17:56) – by only seconds.

Andrea Nerlich, 37, of Huntington, finished the 5K first for women at 23:07, just ahead of 43-year-old Dorene Keach, of Bay Shore, by a mere second.

Further results from the race, including times for most runners that finished, can be found on Active here.

The race helped raise over $200,000 for injured veterans and their families.
