Chiefs Player's Wake Held in Dix Hills

Jovan Belcher was remembered at the Upper Room Christian World Center on Deer Park Avenue.

West Babylon native Jovan Belcher, who committed suicide after he shot and killed his girlfriend on Dec. 1, was remembered at the Upper Room Christian World Center in Dix Hills on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Belcher, who was in his fourth year as a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, shot himself in the parking lot of the team's practice facility earlier this month.

AP also reported that photographers were turned away and that mourners leaving the wake didn't speak to reporters.

Belcher's girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, was memorialized at two services last week. They left behind a daughter.

Belcher played football for West Babylon High School before moving on to the University of Maine.

This guy is a MURDERER ! That fact negates all of his other biographical info. You and the rest of the media outlets just quickly gloss over that fact and go into detail about how he played pro football. Oh yeah, "They left behind a daughter"??? No, he killed his daughter's mother. How about printing the truth for a change? This guy is no hero. Who cares that he played for West Babylon, U of Maine, or the Kansas City Chiefs. The guy MURDERED the mother of his child. He is a savage killer. But hey, let's print his football stats and how much money he made etc. Great Job Patch and the rest of the media

TK, I agree. Both Belcher and his baby mama were out partying in the days prior to this incident. That poor baby was doomed from day one to irresponsible parenting. These young kids are given salaries well beyond what an average college graduate would make, but they are given no real world guidance on life. Too much money + too few responsibilities = trouble. How many DUI's are NFL players racking up that the media quietly passes over? Unless, of course, you're Josh Brent and you kill a fellow teammate in the process. Gun/drug possession charges? Only the sensational cases - like Michael Vick, convicted dog fighter, make the headlines today; the rest are just oh so boring to waste time printing. Stop giving these kids excessive salaries for the first 5 years of their professional career and watch the "bad behavior" problem take care of itself.

Not a star for sure. Just sadly mixed up . . . we all need to say a prayer for him, his dead girlfriend and their baby girl. The Lord will forgive . . . the daughter will need help. gg

TK --- You described my feelings EXACTLY. He is murderer first and really nothing else matters. The fact the he decided to end his own life and not face a life of roting in a jail cell does not make him a hero. What he did on the football field means NOTHING.
