Charles Galiano chosen in the 36th round of the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft.

A Dix Hills teen was drafted to play in the major leagues Wednesday, just weeks before his high school graduation.

Charles Galiano, who attends Commack High School, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 36th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, Fordham University Athletics anounced. He was pick No. 1118.

Galiano, who played starting catcher for Commack's varsity team this spring, helped lead the Cougars to the Suffolk County Class AA League 1 Championship. He has received All-League and All-County honors for 2012.

The graduating senior signed a Letter of Intent to play for Fordham University in spring 2012, one of the university's nine early signees. This is the second straight year that a Fordham recruit was drafted straight out of high school, as Matthew Duran was taken in the fourth round by the New York Yankees last year, the university stated.

According to the university's report, Galiano is the 33rd player with Fordam ties to be drafted since the inception of the Major League draft in 1965.
