On July 20th, 2009, 19 year old Half Hollow Hills East alumnus and

University of Buffalo student Matthew Scarpati was tragically struck

and killed by a drunk driver while riding his bike on the Wantagh Bike Path. In his memory, the Miles For Matt Foundation, an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was established.

Matt was an outstanding soccer player, having played three years of varsity for Half Hollow Hills High School East, and played for numerous clubs including HBC, Dix Hills, East Meadow, Auburndale, Brentwood, and others. He also played on the NY State Cup team as well as ODP Select. He traveled to England for the Shrewsbury International Tournament and represented the United States with FCNY in 2007.

The Matthew Logan Scarpati Memorial Soccer Tournament has been established to be a yearly
