Girls Softball: Nitro 99 Beats Bay Shore 10-0

Nitro shuts out Bay Shore for the gold and goes undefeated for the season.

Records: Nitro 99 (13-0) Bay Shore (8-5)

Half Hollow Hills Little League Nitro took the gold championship. They did it by shutting out Bay Shore 10-0.

It's not surprising that this group of softball players took the gold. They happen to be seven of the girls from the summer minors team that won District 34, Section 6 (Long Island Championship), and made it to the New York State Championship game 6-5 L.

They were one win away from going to Williamsport.

The returning players are: Kristen Ulmer, Alexandra Parkas, Danielle Blaustein, Natalie Villa, Rachel Gassler, Delaney Milo and Julia Nomberg.

The Hero: "They are all heroes," said Coach Terry. "Each and every player on our team did an excellent job, all season long, and I sing their praises.  They all had a "moment" this fall season, and we couldn't be more proud of this fine group of young ladies."

The Turning Point:  Going into the bottom of the 4th inning with a 3-0 lead, the girls came out and got their bats going.  They had some great at bats and were disciplined at the plate, while running the bases really well.  Nitro had two big hits in the inning, both with two outs by Dani Blaustein and Maya Chin Quee to extend the lead to 9-0 at the end of 4 innings.

The Quote: "I couldn't be more proud of the girls," Coach Terry said. "They worked hard all season long at practice and during the games, and left it all on the field.  They had an incredible season and it was an absolute honor and privilege to coach them this fall season."

The Bottom Line:  The girls played solid defense, had some great at bats at the plate with some clutch two out hits and ran the bases extremely well. They came out with great focus and determination from the very beginning and showed their true character and love for the game.

Key Stat:  Kristen Ulmer pitched a complete game one hitter with 12 strikeouts.  The defense behind her was incredible. Her battery mate catcher, Alex Parkas, made a great diving catch in the first on a bunt attempt to set the tone of the game.  Natalie Villa (1B) made a great diving play to her right one inning and followed it up with another great play to her left denying Bay Shore of hits.  Maya Chin Quee (3B), Dani Blaustein (SS), and Rachel Gassler (2B) sealed the deal for the rest of the infield with some solid plays as well.
